Do you notice how art is signed?

My artist signature has evolved over time. As a child I often put a date or year as well as my name on my drawings. My early paintings had my first and last name in the corner of the artwork. I used some different methods in the beginning of my art career. For many years I have signed with my initials only. I like that way, even when I changed my last name it was still same initials.

My maiden name started with M my married name was M and now still M. I thought a lot about my current last name and a criteria was to keep it to my familiar initials, so that my paintings would have the same signature.

I often keep my initials in the same colours as the rest of the painting, so it blends in and I like that look. However, I also sometimes use a contrast colour to make it stand out. The photos below show an example of each way.

As humans we change over time and my artwork has changed too. My initials have stayed the same for years and yet my way of leaving my name on my art is alive and slightly different from piece to piece. Each piece of artwork is unique and so is the signature.
