Recently I had an opportunity to do some drawing with Olivia who is 5 years old. She is related to me but doesnt know me well. However, when she said she was bored I jumped at the chance and suggested that we did some drawing. We got a box of colour pencils and some paper from the printer. We connected through the drawing and had a wonderful time. She learned to draw stars and simple flowers and butterflies. We coloured and drew for some time. I lost track of time and just

enjoyed it. We drew a unicorn and coloured it in. She has older siblings and was interested in spelling names. Friends and family was also at the table and everyone had ideas and was involved. It was so cool to see how she took it all in and focused on the drawing. I was reminded of how drawing is a means of connecting, a way of comunication where the moments of silence are accepted. We did an activity together where age was irrelevant and words not needed.
It has been so long since I have been dawing with children and forgot how rewarding it is.
